This post is to inform all of you that I will not be posting regularly on Nick in Africa anymore, but instead on a new photoblog site I have set up.  Since returning from Uganda, I have challenged myself to take at least one photo everyday, for an entire year.  This is in part to explore photography, but also to schedule time in every single day to soak things in, to discover.  The website below will follow this year’s journey through the lens of my camera.  Thank you so much for all of your support and continued encouragement in all that I do.  May God bless you all…

Today’s photo was taken on February 8, 2009 at 2:45 PM.  We were hiking in the Rwenzoris.  On the way back from our hike we met some children who live on the side of the mountains.  We stopped for an afternoon rest in the grass and had some fun with the kids.

One final day in Uganda.  I will see everyone soon.

Girl at Kansanga Senior Secondary School

Today’s photo was taken on April 27, 2009 at 3:15 PM.  A few of us were coming back from town on a matatu, and heard a lot of commotion at Kansanga Senior Secondary School, a local school.  We stopped and watched their festivities celebrating the final day of the term.  Included activities were dramas, dancing, singing, etc.  This picture was taken during a play where this woman’s son died from drugs and alcohol.

Stockings and Shoes: Arua Central Football Club

Today’s photo was taken on May 22, 2009 at 3:45 PM.  I was the “official” photographer for the Arua Central Football Club.  The scene pictured is a group huddle before the second match of the tournament.  It’s funny how those shoes predicted the outcome of the tournament.

Jennifer Wilmore and Kampala

Today’s photo was taken on April 11, 2009 at 8:20 AM.  The area pictured is the rock quarry local to the Kansanga district of Kampala.  The quarry has hosted our sunrise and cinnamon roll adventures for the past six months.  The views over Lake Victoria and the landscape of Kampala itself are incredible.

Boy at regional soccer tournament

Today’s photo was taken on May 24, 2009 at 3:40 PM.  For the entire week of the regional soccer tournament, I almost always had an entourage of children around me.  They were fascinated with my camera, and always greeted me with the biggest smiles.  By the end of the week, I could recognize the ones that made a point to seek me out each day.  This little boy was one of those ones.

Colobus Monkey at the Entebbe Zoo

Today’s picture was taken on February 21, 2009 at 4:00 PM.  Some interns and I spent the day at the zoo.  In Africa, they just let the monkeys wander free instead of being locked up in a cage…

Margaret and children from a local school

Today’s photograph was taken on May 3, 2009 at 1:50 PM.  This picture is from the project trip I was on in Pajule, Uganda.  Across from the hotel we were staying at was a local school.  This particular moment is depicting Margaret, one of the ministry people, trying to teach the children how to play “Duck, Duck, Goose.”  They didn’t understand very well…

Danielle La Brie, Suellen Maia, Janet Strike, Laura Fieg

Today’s photograph was taken on May 2, 2009 at 6:40 PM.  We were staying at the Crow’s Nest, a campsite at Sipi Falls.  There was a viewing area up on a hill above our campsite where we were able to see a beautiful African sunset.
